LegalPlain

Terms of Service

Last updated: August 14, 2026

The short version

LegalToPlain restates a legal document in plain English. It is an AI-generated reading aid: it can be wrong, and it is not legal advice. It costs $9 per document. If it doesn’t help you, email support@legaltoplain.com within 30 days — or just reply to your delivery email — and we’ll refund you.

This summary is here to be useful, not to replace the sections below. The sections below are the agreement.

1. What LegalToPlain does

You upload a document. We extract its text, send that text to an AI model, and send you back a plain-English version of each section — shown side by side with the original — plus “worth noting” flags on some sections.

Everything the service produces is generated by AI. It may contain errors and it may leave things out. It describes what your document says; it does not tell you what your document means for you or what you should do about it. Treat it as information, not as an answer.

These Terms are between you and Geary Works, the company that operates LegalToPlain (“we,” “us”). Our mailing address is 1380 Rio Rancho Blvd SE #470, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87124. These Terms apply every time you use the site or buy a translation.

3. Don’t rely on it by itself

Do not make a legal, financial, or business decision based only on what LegalToPlain gives you. Read the original document before you sign anything, and check anything that matters against it.

The original document controls. Where a translation and the original disagree, the original governs — always. You are responsible for your own decisions and for verifying anything you act on.

4. What you’re buying

$9 (US dollars), one time, per document. No subscription, nothing recurring, and no account to create. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay.

Payment is handled by Stripe through guest checkout. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. See our privacy policy for what each service we use can see.

Before you can pay, you have to check a box confirming you understand you are buying an AI-generated plain-English explanation, not legal advice. Checking that box and completing payment is how you accept these Terms. If you don’t agree with them, don’t check the box and don’t use the service.

5. Money-back guarantee

If a translation isn’t helpful, email support@legaltoplain.com within 30 days and ask for a refund — or just reply to your delivery email, whichever is easier. You get the full $9 back. No forms, no explanation required.

If we take your money and fail to deliver a translation, we refund you automatically — you don’t have to ask. Refunds are issued through Stripe to your original payment method and usually take a few business days to appear.

6. What you can and can’t upload

Only upload a document you have the right to share with a service that processes it — your own document, or one you have permission to handle. If a confidentiality obligation stops you from sharing it, don’t upload it.

Don’t use LegalToPlain for anything unlawful, and don’t upload content that is illegal to possess or share.

Don’t abuse the service with automated tools: no scraping, no bulk or scripted submissions, no attempts to get around payment, rate limits, or security controls, and no probing or interfering with the systems the service runs on.

We can refuse or discontinue service to anyone who breaks these rules.

7. Who owns what

Your document stays yours. The translation we produce for you is yours to use however you like, personally or in your business. We don’t claim ownership of either.

You give us permission to process your document only for as long as it takes to produce and deliver your translation. Everything else — the site, the software, the design, and our own wording — belongs to us.

8. The service is provided “as is”

In plain English: We don’t promise this works or that a translation is right. It’s AI-generated, so it can be wrong, incomplete, or unavailable, and you take it as it comes. If it isn’t useful to you, the money-back guarantee in section 5 is there for exactly that.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LegalToPlain is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.

We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any translation will be complete, accurate, or suitable for a particular purpose.

9. Limit on our liability

In plain English: If something goes wrong, the most you can get back from us is what you paid for that document — $9 — not what a bad decision ended up costing you. Where your local law doesn’t allow a limit like that, your local law wins.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to LegalToPlain or to a translation is limited to the amount you paid us for the document the claim is about — $9.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost business, lost data, or any loss arising from a decision you made based on a translation — even if we were told such losses were possible.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limits. Where that’s the case, the limits above apply to the fullest extent the law allows, and nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

10. If there’s a problem between us

In plain English: Email us first and give us 30 days to make it right before you take any formal action. If it ever does go further, the law of the state we’re organized in applies — and you keep any consumer rights where you live that you can’t sign away.

Start informally. Email support@legaltoplain.com, or reply to your delivery email, and tell us what went wrong — we’ll work in good faith to fix it, and most problems are a refund away. Please give us 30 days to resolve it before starting any formal proceeding.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, where Geary Works is based, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here takes away consumer-protection rights you have where you live that can’t be waived by agreement.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, the “Last updated” date at the top changes. The version in effect on the day you paid governs that purchase; continuing to use the service after an update means you accept the updated version for anything you buy afterward.

12. The rest of the plumbing

If any part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce something right away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later. Together with our privacy policy, these Terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.

13. How to reach us

Email support@legaltoplain.com. A person reads it. That address works whether or not you ever bought anything, and whether or not our email reached you.

If it’s easier, reply to any email you’ve received from LegalToPlain — your receipt or your delivery email — and it comes straight to us too. There’s no account to log into and no support portal to navigate.

By mail: Geary Works, 1380 Rio Rancho Blvd SE #470, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87124. Email is faster — a letter works, but expect a slower reply.
