Privacy Policy

The short version

Your document is processed in memory and never written to our database. It is deleted from our systems as soon as your translation is delivered, and never later than 24 hours. The translation — and the original text it was made from — stays in your own browser until you clear your site data; we don’t keep a copy. No accounts, no ads, and we never sell your data.

What happens to your document

When you upload a file or paste text, we extract the words and hold them in memory just long enough to produce your translation. We never write your document to our database — we don’t keep a documents database at all. It is deleted from our systems as soon as your translation is delivered, and never later than 24 hours.

The finished translation is stored in your own browser, using localStorage on the device you used. We don’t keep a copy on our servers.

Saved alongside it is the text we read out of your document — the full original wording, so the side-by-side view still works when you come back. That copy is on your device, not ours, and it stays there until you remove it. To remove it: clear site data for this site in your browser’s settings (in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge it’s under the site’s privacy or “cookies and site data” settings), or clear your browsing data. That deletes it immediately and for good — we can’t send it back to you afterward.

That trade-off is worth knowing: if you clear your browser data, use private browsing, or switch devices, the copy in your browser is gone and we can’t send it again, because we no longer have it. That is why we also email the translation to you — keep that email, or download the PDF.

The outside services that touch your data

A handful of companies help run LegalToPlain. Here is every one that handles your document or your data, and what each can see. Each has its own privacy policy.

Stripe — payment
Handles checkout. Stripe collects your card details directly; they never touch our servers. Stripe passes us your email address and confirmation that the payment succeeded, and keeps the record of the sale. Stripe never sees your document.
Anthropic (Claude API) — translation
The text of your document is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API, which produces the plain-English translation. Anthropic does not train its models on data submitted through the API, and may retain API inputs briefly for trust-and-safety review.
Resend — email delivery
Sends your delivery email. Your email address and the attached translation pass through Resend’s systems on the way to your inbox.
Vercel — hosting
The site and the code that processes your document run on Vercel’s infrastructure, so every request — including your upload while it is being handled — passes through their servers.
PostHog — usage analytics
Counts things like page views and how far people get through the steps, so we can see where the product is confusing. It runs without cookies and never receives your document, your translation, or your email address. Like almost any analytics tool, each event does include your IP address, which PostHog uses to work out an approximate location (city and country) — we don't use it to identify you personally.
Sentry — error monitoring
Receives a technical report when something breaks, so we can fix it. Document content is scrubbed from those reports.

We don’t share your document or your email address with anyone else.

What we don’t collect

There are no accounts and no passwords, so there is nothing to log into and nothing for us to leak. We keep no archive of documents and no history of what you’ve translated.

We don’t sell, rent, or trade your information. We don’t run ads or advertising trackers, and we don’t add you to a marketing list.

If we are ever legally required to hand over information we hold, we will — but for documents there is almost never anything to hand over, because they’re already deleted.

Your email address

Your email address comes from Stripe checkout, and we use it for exactly three things: delivering your translation, sending your receipt, and handling a refund or a reply from you.

It stays in Stripe’s record of your purchase, which is our record of sales, and in the email we sent you. Nothing else.

Cookies and analytics

We don’t use cookies to track you or to advertise. Our analytics (PostHog) is configured to run cookieless, and it never receives document content. Each analytics event does include your IP address, which PostHog uses to work out an approximate location (city and country) — standard behavior for nearly any analytics tool, and not something we use to identify you personally.

Your browser’s localStorage holds your own document text and translation on your own device. It isn’t sent to us, and it isn’t a tracker. Clearing this site’s data removes it.

Stripe may set its own cookies during checkout for fraud prevention. That happens on Stripe’s checkout page, under Stripe’s policy.

Requests about your data

LegalToPlain is operated by Geary Works, 1380 Rio Rancho Blvd SE #470, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87124 — the “we” throughout this policy, and the party responsible for the data described here.

Email support@legaltoplain.com and tell us what you want — a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion — and we’ll take care of it. If it’s easier, replying to your delivery email reaches the same place.

In practice there is usually nothing left to delete: your document is gone from our systems within 24 hours of delivery, and the translation and original text live in your browser, where you can clear them yourself by clearing this site’s data. What we can act on is your email address and the purchase record held by Stripe.

Depending on where you live, you may have specific legal rights over your personal information. We use the same process for everyone, so just ask.

Children

LegalToPlain is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 16. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, email support@legaltoplain.com — or reply to any LegalToPlain email — and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll make that clear on the page rather than quietly editing it.

How to reach us

Email support@legaltoplain.com with any question about your privacy or your data. A person reads it, whether or not you’ve ever bought anything.

Replying to any email you’ve received from LegalToPlain — your receipt or your delivery email — comes straight to us too. Our terms of service cover the rest of the relationship.
